With the recent release of Run, it only seemed fitting that the title track would kick off our evening with AWOLNATION. The dance-floor was packed before the song was half-way through, and it had us thinking that a bigger venue will be needed the next time these guys are in town.
Hollow Moon followed and was met with enthusiastic applause and singing. In fact, the audience sang along to almost every song AWOLNATION played. Any time Aaron took the mic away from himself the audience was right there ready to fill-in the lyrics. It was surreal to see a crowd participating so heavily in a band’s performance. The introductory drum beat for most songs was often enough to get the audience singing. Jump On My Shoulders and Knights of Shame were highlights for their anthemic reception, and fantastic connection between the band and audience.
Before we knew it, AWOLNATION had left the stage and we were left chanting for more. They returned to play an encore that included I Am, Dreamers, and Sail. Being some of their most popular songs, the encore choices were met with great enthusiasm from the audience. Having Sail close the evening was a perfect choice, leaving us vibrating from the bass and reminding everyone why AWOLNATION is loved by so many.
It was a crazy night. Getting to see such a big audience feeling this personal connection with a band was incredible, and wouldn’t have happened without Aaron’s fantastic energy as the front-man. The wicked instrumentals by the band were the cherry on top.
If you get the chance to check out AWOLNATION during any of their upcoming tour dates we highly recommend it. Bring your enthusiasm, and the band will guide the rest.
