Diddy Bop (ft. Raury & Cam O’bi) is the sweet summer tune off of Noname’s latest project Telefone. Out of Chicago and straight into the eyes and ears of Chance the Rapper, Noname’s confidence shines through every word she drops on this song.
She pieces together a smooth poetic story over a hip-hop beat that sounds like it was made for a cool basement party in the late nineties. Her voice resembles Lauryn Hill’s warmth, but she maintains a heat all her own.
In between Noname’s perfectly placed lines, Raury gives us his verses with a gracefulness rare for an up-and-coming artist. They transition as if they’ve worked together for twenty years. It’s so natural it makes me want to take the rest of the day off, grab a drink, and call my best friend over the telefone. This one is for the dreamers.
